A great freedom fighter, an epitome of bravery and sacrifice, a beacon of hope and inspiration for oppressed, loyal to freedom of Kashmir and the great leader of Hurriyat, SYED ALI SHAH GEELANI has passed away at the age of 92 on 1st September 2021.
This legend was born on 29 September 1929 in Bandipore. He started his education at Sopore and finished at the Oriental College, Lahore. He lived in Hyderpora, Srinagar. He did two marriages. He has two sons named Nayeem and Naseem and four daughters named Anisha, Farhat Jabeen, Zamshida and Chamshida. Anisha and Farhat are his daughters from his second marriage.
He was diagnosed renal cancer in 2006 and suggested for treatment from abroad but the Indian government returned his passport to his son. In the early stages of cancer, his condition worsened and doctor advised surgery in 2007 but the American government rejected his visa report, therefore; he went to Mumbai for surgery. In 2014, Geelani had a severe chest infection. He had been under house arrest for almost eleven years since 2010. He was not allowed to go for treatment. There were many rumors of his death in those days.
He struggled so hard for the freedom of Kashmir. He was the voice of Kashmiris. His life was full of untiring struggles and hardships just to make Kashmiris an independent nation. He was also awarded with “Nishan-e-Pakistan” at the 73rd birthday of Pakistan.

His love for Pakistan Kashmir is non-negotiable.

اسلام کی نسبت سے، اسلام کے تعلق سے، اسلام کی وجہ سے
ہم پاکستانی ہیں ، پاکستان ہمارا ہے۔
On 1st September, Syed Ali Shah Geelani, the great leader of Hurriyat, the symbol of freedom movement has appeared before Allah and left this temporarily world at his residence in Hyderpora, Srinagar.
إِنَّا لِلّهِ وَإِنَّـا إِلَيْهِ رَاجِعُونَ
Indian forces in Jammu & Kashmir threatened family of legendary Syed Ali Shah Geelani either to bury body of Geelani within 30 minutes or they would bury him in unnamed grave away from Srinagar. They forced his family to do the funeral ceremony in the darkness of night. They are scared of the real lion after the death also.
Prime Minister of Pakistan Imran Khan also expressed heartfelt condolences over the demise of Syed Ali Shah Geelani and paid tribute to his valour and restlessness struggle in the face of Indian oppressions. The PM announced a day of official mourning and said that Pakistan flag will fly at half mast.
